Silicone endografts. History of the moratorium

The author gives a detailed history of marketing prohibition of silicone endografts. The article shows FDA requirements to augmentation using such endografts after discontinuation of the moratorium, particularly, the postmarketing safety and efficacy control, complete preoperative information for a patient, the need for long-term 10-year postoperative follow-up, etc. History of the moratorium is regarded as an example of a medico-ethical solution.

Implants of unknown manufacturers and some alternative methods of aesthetic breast enlargement

The authors present the dates about implants of unknown manufacturers retrieved from patients between 1988 and 2006 and introduce a number of alternative methods of breast enlargement without silicone implants.

Modern concepts of pruritus

Pruritus appears as a common and unclear symptom, sign, diagnosis. As a sensation it can be focal, disseminated, spontaneous, psychogenic, etc. In case of dermatological and non-dermatological conditions the pruritus is a common symptom. Special indexes are used for exact assessment of the pruritus: SCORAD, EASI, Pruridnex, etc. The antipruritic therapy doesn’t exist per se, only the successful treatment of the underlying disease results in reduction of the pruritus.

Molecular mechanisms of rejuvenation skin using fractional photothermolysis

Accoding to the conception of hormesis – prolonged effect in response to mild stress,- the article outlines the method of fractional photothermolysis, whose principle consists in formation of the microscopic coagulation areas at upper layers in the skin, so-called microthermal zones (MTZ). Authors provide molecular explanation for skin rejuvenation occurring under stress induced by fractional photothermolysis.

Teleangiectasis of the lower limbs. Part I. Diagnosis and treatment

According to numerous studies and the efficacy analysis of various angiosclerosis methods (pharmacological agents, oxygen-ozone therapy and percutaneous laser coagulation) and taking into account the contraindications the authors present recommendations as regards to the choice of an optimal angiosclerosis method to treat teleangiectasis of the lower limbs.

The use of natural sea water in aesthetic medicine and anti-ageing therapy

The article describes the effect of isotonic and hypertonic forms of purified natural (ocean) water on the restoration of acid-base balance in the body. The author estimates the potential of sea water consumption combined with classic physical therapy for tiredness syndrome.

Aesthetic and functional correction of foot deformation in case of transverse flat-foot syndrome, hallux valgus

The article outlines the surgical correction of the anterior foot portion deformities (transverse flat-foot, hallux valgus) developed in the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics. The proposed complex surgical intervention implies removal of bone and cartilaginous lesions from the head of metatarsal bone I, resection of proximal phalanx of the first finger, transverse osteotomy of the basis of metatarsal bone I with insertion of autobone wedge and fixation of the reconstruction with lavsan band.

Foot deformation (complex treatment at the cosmetological centre)

The article introduces a complex method of medical therapy for patients with functionally impaired feet and grade I-II flat-feet syndrome utilizing the homeopathic and antihomotoxic agents. The results suggest partial or complete reduction of pain, reinforcement of ligaments and articular surface, life quality improvement. The method can be used separately, utilized for preparation of patients to foot surgery, as well as for faster rehabilitation and secondary prevention of the disease. The authors point out, that effective management of foot deformation requires joint efforts of different specialists: orthopedist, machine pedicure specialist and, in some instances, homeopathist.

Anterior neck lifting

Authors introduce a novel technique of rejuvenation of cervicomental angle and the middle portion of neck, named the anterior neck lifting. The article briefly describes stages of the procedure (marking, anesthesia, neck liposuction, Z-shaped repair of the anterior muscular edges (platysma). Postoperative care recommendations are given. Documentary photographs are provided for some clinical cases.
