INVITATION
Dear colleagues and friends,
it is with pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 1st International Conference “Skin & Environment”, organized by two Russian Medical Universities and the most famous Italian Dermatological Institute. The 6 day long Conference will be held on a river ship cruising from Moscow to St. Petersburg. The Conference facilities on board consist of a main Conference Hall to host 150 participants and smaller outlets for poster session, workshops and exhibition.
The mysteries of skin reactions to sun irradiation, weather conditions, environment contamination, and cosmetology procedures revive old and give us new challenges. This Conference will especially focus on the cellular and molecular processes in the skin exposed to physical, chemical, and biological agents. This might contribute to the alarming increase in the frequency of environment-associated and iatrogenic skin defects. This might also give an impulse to the development of new means feasible for skin protection and treatment. Our best hope is that the Conference will facilitate mutual understanding and fruitful interconnections between basic researchers and medical doctors involved in the dermatology/cosmetology field.
In addition to the scientific program, you are invited to join numerous social events starting from Welcome reception on the ship floating along Moscow-river followed by sightseeing of ancient Russian towns, churches, and monasteries hidden in the immense forests, dancing and midnight entertainment. You will have a unique opportunity to see Byzantine frescoes dating back to the 11th century and entire village made of wood without any metal parts. Our trip will start from the ancient and ever-young Russian capital, will proceed along four rivers, channels, crossing three big lakes, and finishes in the gorgeous old Russian capital. The Farwell party will be arranged as a barbecue on the picturesque river bank.
We do hope that we will enjoy together inspiring and informal discussion, friendly atmosphere, delicate and romantic Russian landscape illuminated by sun light for 24 hours a day (“white nights”), peculiar architecture, warm Russian hospitality, and plenty of traditional food and beverages
Welcome – Benvenuti – Добро пожаловать!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Transportation
Moscow is connected to many countries by rather well developed network of airlines. The Moscow International airport “Sheremet’evo2” is 30 min away from the river port, from which our cruising ship "Valerian Kuibeshev" will depart at 7:30p.m. on the 1st of June. The foreign participants will be picked up at Sheremet’evo 2 and brought to the port by the Conference buses at 11:00a.m.; 1:00p.m.; 3:00p.m.; and 5:00p.m. The buses of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. will bring the attendees for sightseeing tour of Moscow (minimum 10 persons).
Upon arrival at St. Petersburg, on June 6th, a post-conference tour will be available, including Peterghof gardens, Royal Summer Palace with its amber room in Puškin (90 EURO). Please book through Registration & Accomodation Form.
From St. Petersburg the participants could take a flight to their home destinations from the International airport “Pulkovo” or take a night train St. Petersburg-Moscow, which provides rather comfortable sleeping cars of double occupancy. The cost of train ticket is 65 EURO (breakfast snack, coffee, tea, and mineral water included), tickets available upon request. If the guests wish to extent their Russian trip, the Organizing Committee will be committed to arrange the hotel booking either in St. Petersburg or in Moscow upon request (See the Registration & Accomodation Form).
Climate and dress code
As everything in Russia, the climate is unpredictable. In the beginning of June, you could enjoy rather warm and pleasant weather (about 20-25oC) or be exposed to chilly North wind that, all of a sudden, brings the temperature down to 10oC. Therefore participants are advised to bring along warm waterproof jackets/coats, sweaters, and comfortable walking shoes. The whole atmosphere of the meeting including social events will not request any formal dresses or ties. Since we are planning to visit monasteries it is advisable for ladies to have a long skirt and a foulard to cover their heads.
Currency
The local currency is ruble (RUR). The current exchange rate is RUR 27:USD 1 and RUR 36:EURO 1 (March 2005). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, airports, and exchange counters. Credit cards of the main circuits are currently accepted.
Our ship does not have currency exchange points, so participants are advised to change at the airport upon arrival or in St Petersburg.
Electricity
220 Volts A.C. – same as in Europe
