A.E. Belousov. On precision of estimation in plastic surgery // Plastic urgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 353-356

The factors affecting the precision of estimation of the scleral lumen as an important characteristic of lower lids are considered. According to the author’s opinion, despite some possible inaccuracy, the analysis of photographic images of face (in particular, the orbit) enables in the majority of cases to evaluate the scleral lumen and other characteristics of lower lids with a degree of precision acceptable for a plastic surgeon.

A.E. Belousov. On some asymmetries of lower lids // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 357-364

The analysis of photographic images of 205 people with scleral lumens showed that the difference in the scleral lumen size between the right and the left eyes was observed in 54.1% of cases. At that, the more pronounced scleral lumen was more often seen in the right side of the face (39.0±3.4%, р<0.001). The asymmetry of the position (intensity) of inferior palpebral arches was detected in 50.2% of cases. Therewith, the more pronounced inferior palpebral arch was more often observed on the right (37.0±3.38%, р<0.001).

P.V. Libin, A.N. Tamarov, A.M. Borovikov. 3D-imaging in mammoplasty // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 367-380

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging is a body model, created by computer software, and translated to the screen of a monitor. The «volumetric» image possess the photographical sharpness and provides for better perception of an object by a human eye. 3D-model captures all the special, geometrical features of the surface which than can be measured with exactness, not available with other techniques. Raising awareness of new medical technologies on part of patients as well as competition among plastic surgeons are responsible for growing demand on 3D-imaging with consequent computer simulation of the prospective procedure results. The commercially available techniques require special skills and expensive hardware, i.e. scanners. Presented is the version of 3D-imaging based on conventional (2D) digital camera allowing to obtain body models and to simulate the surgical results. Our version has proved to offer no less quality of modeling and simulation, than the commercially available ones. Our results of computer simulation, based on correlation the subjective sense of aesthetics with mathematical data, appeared to be very close to the real ones.

A.A. Cheburkin, L.N. Mazankova, S.I. Salnikova. Urticaria syndrom in children with parasitic infections and helminthoses // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 415-423

The literary data on the relation of urticaria with infectious and parasitic diseases are contradictory. At the same time, it is doubtless that urticaria in some patients is an infection symptom, which is most probably associated with genetic predisposing factors. The role of parasitic invasion and helminthoses in the pathogenesis of urticaria becomes most clearly apparent in patients with acute urticaria; in case of chronic urticaria, these infections play a minimal role.

Acne in women is, in many cases, one of the signs of hyperandrogenism. It may be accompanied by hyperinsulinemia and dislipidemy, which afterwards leads to development of the metabolic syndrome. The intensity of acne manifestations depends on the degree of insulin resistance. Administration of metformin in the complex therapy of acne in women with insulin resistance results in a pronounced positive dynamics of clinical presentations of acne, as well as in normalization of hormonal and metabolic abnormalities.

Key words: acne in women, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, metformin, reduction in the diastolic index, high efficacy, high tolerability

Acne inverse is a rare and severe type of acne manifestation requiring early and rational treatment. In contrast to acne vulgaris, acne inversa affects axillae, perianal fold, buttocks and scalp. In this connection, the diagnosis of this disease is highly complicated. The article contains a review of data on pathogenesis and clinical peculiatiries of acne inversa. The problems of modern diagnosis and treatment are considered.

The sonographic pattern of the lip tissue was studied with the use of high-frequency derma scanning (20 MHz) before and after injection of a Repleri hyaluronic acid – based filler. The inertness of hyaluronic filler in the lip tissue a month after injection was shown. The ultrasound examination of skin indicated a high rate of informativity in the noninvasive evaluation of structural peculiarities of skin and subcutaneous tissues before and after the dermatocosmetologic intervention.

O.Y. Olisova, I.V. Verkhoglyad, I.P. Gostroverhova. Treatment of alopecia areata. Review // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 451-457

The article provides a review of new methods of treatment of alopecia areata (AA). The difficulty to successfully treat alopecia areata requires the observance of the main principle of the alopecia areata therapy – the therapy should be complex and as individual as possible. The variety of available methods of drug therapy and apparatus procedures extends possibilities for optimal choice of the course of treatment of alopecia areata.

A.G. Gadzhigoroeva. Treatment of partial hair loss in women with the concomitant hyperandrogenic syndrome // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 459-463

The partial hair loss in women may be sometimes accompanied by increase of male hormones in blood. The clinical-laboratory diagnosis with determination of levels of androgens in biological fluids of the organism enables to define the etiopathogenesis of hair loss more exactly. Correction of endocrinopathy accompanied by hyperandrogenism is a necessary condition of effective treatment of hair loss. To normalize the level of androgens, drugs with steroid activity, as well as non-hormonal inhibitors of androgens are used. In order to stimulate hair growth, irrespective of the cause of the hair loss, minoxidil in the form of lotion for external use is applied. In the complex therapy, mesotherapy and physiotherapeutic methods are used.

O.V. Sheptiy. Fractional ablation as a new principle of skin remodeling // Plastic surgery and Cosmetology. 2010(3), p. 473-480

The skin rejuvenation is a many-sided task, which comprises not only elimination of visible signs of aging (wrinkles, pigmentation etc.) but also renewal of the connective-tissue skin support structure – dermal remodeling. The evolution of skin rejuvenation methods is most demonstrative when implementing the high technologies – lasers. In this particular sphere almost all types of action on skin – from ablation to fractional photothermolysis – have been tested. The fractional ablation is the «golden mean» between the classical approach and the new principle of laser energy delivery.
