Sugar substitute. A review

The authors have reviewed the sweeteners and sugar substitutes as the common components of a low-calorie diet for weight reduction or treatment of skin disorders, as well as the advances in clinical dietology of sugar substitutes. The article gives a review of sugar substitutes available on the Russian pharmaceutical market.

Normal human microflora maintains the biochemical, metabolic and immunological balance of the host. Changes of the balance between the macro- and microorganisms developed during evolution inevitably results in the formation of various nosologic unit. Adequate therapy is impossible without normalization of the intestinal microbial cenosis. The combined use of multi-component probiotics and prebiotics allows for restoration of the lost microbial cenosis balance.

Functional approach to etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of psoriasis

The article outlines the causes and pathogenesis of psoriasis with particular emphasis placed on the predisposing factors, describes the treatment strategies based on the elimination or reduction of etiological factors in a patient’s body considering the pathophysiological processes arising from these factors.

Correction of atrophic and cicatrical skin deformations using «Collost» gel

The author concludes, that 7% “Collost” gel is highly effective for correction of atrophic skin changes of various origin due to its non-toxic nature and high biocompatibility, absence of migration and fibrous capsule during prolonged period of time following the procedure. The effect of collagen injections is not limited to restoration of the required tissue volume, but also includes potent stimulation of the extracellular collagen synthesis.

Gas-liquid peeling using Jet Peel for correction of scars

The authors review the types of scars and stages of healing, presenting a tabulated comparison of different methods used for scar repair: cryotherapy, electro- and ionophoresis, sandblast and surgical dermabrasion. The article includes the clinical experience with a gas-liquid peeling unit – Jet Peel (TavTech, Israel) suggesting that peeling may be performed without anesthesia and provide successful correction of hypertrophic and hypothrophic scars, small post-acne scars.

Photopneumatic method in the treatment of acne

The study describes the results of a pilot trial implying photopneumatic method (РРх system, Aesthera, USA) to treat acne. An original combination of a blue-spectrum light flash and vacuum affecting the pathological elements make the РРх therapy a pathogenetically reasonable method of acne treatment. Good clinical effect was obtained in all four grades of acne severity. Remission usually develops following 5–6 PPx procedures in mild and moderate acne or after 8–10 procedures in severe acne.

Radio-wave impact for rejuvenation of periorbital zone

The method of radio-wave lifting with the use of ThermaCool (Thermage, USA) is under discussion. An indication for such lifting is gravitational ptosis of soft tissues and loose skin (reduction of tonus), associated with age-related changes in skin integument. Peculiarities of the procedure in periorbital face zone and results of clinical researches are being considered.

Surgical approach to repeated augmentation mammoplasty

General analysis of complications of augmentation mammoplasty is given based on 316 examples. It is noted that most of complications were observed at patients who had an injection of polyacrylamide gel. The authors consider the conditions and options for the best way of re-prosthetics.
